This reminds me of these two questions we were asked last year about our pedagogy. I wrote them down and applied them to our work and our deen.

What are our liberating values? (those which allow us to grow)
What are our limiting values? (those which stunt our growth)

The values that Allah SWT has given us and the order that He has created are truly liberating, alhamdulillah. May He SWT help us to adopt them wholeheartedly.

How typical of those in academia ! They give you excercises and homework even when having fun !

When you know that Associating a partner with God in worship is the unforgivable sin, then will recognize la illaha illa Allah as your savior and you will never feel despair. With each sin your repent and say La illaha illa Allah and you are guaranteed His mercy.
When you know that the only reason u were created is to worship god, then you will redefine success. You are only a loser if you are not doing what He tells you to do. You will never feel insecure or a failure if you failed to have what everyone else has
When you know that the only reason that the prophet, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, was given messengerhood is to be a mercy for all the Worlds, you will find following his sunnah as a door to God's mercy. Going beyond it to the extreme is getting away from His mercy and not following it is missing on a chance for Mercy.
When you learn that injustice is the only thing that God forbid on Himself, you never get angry at destiny and you never lose hope that justice will prevail.
Noha commented on the last point quite cleverly :). However, I have an addition. when you know that you rest assured that you are not missing anything when you avoid Haram and you feel that you got the best of this life when you follow halal even it doesn't look like that.

I have a question for everyone for which I don't have an answer. How to avoid self-righteousness as you think that way?

"What is the only reason that something is made permissible or forbidden?
al-Tayyibaat, meaning things that are pure, wholesome, and of benefit, are made permissible. al-Khabaa’ith, meaning things that are impure, unwholesome, or of harm, are made forbidden."

That's actually a very neat answer. very succinct, and simple. Of course, the result is that after that you have to explain for each forbidden thing what about it is impure, unwholesome, etc...
but having such a simple principle at the core of rulings that is so easy to explain to others and to use as personal guidance is wonderful...
