I was born in Berkeley, California (technically in Oakland), spent my childhood in Egypt, teenage years in Kuwait, undergraduate in Newfoundland, back to California for graduate studies in Stanford, a couple of years in Gainesville, FL, then back to silicon valley for work. I came to McMaster University (that’s in Hamilton, ON) as a professor in Electrical Engineering in 2002.

My wife Hebba and I have been blessed al-hamdulillah, with two wonderful boys: Mustafa Abdullah (b. 1995) and Mahmood Omar (b. 1998). We live in Oakville, halfway between Hamilton and Toronto, to be closer to an Islamic school that they go to.

Professionally, I do research in semiconductors and teach electronics to both undergraduate and graduate students. I am also interested in engineering education, research on teaching and learning styles, and research on the interaction between religion, technology, society, and culture.

I am currently a director of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) and I’ve been active with MAS and MAC for some time now al-hamdulillah. I am heavily involved with the MSA at McMaster, and I serve on the boards for Islamic Relief USA and Islamic Relief Canada. I have had the privilege of speaking on Islam and related topics in a variety of venues. I particularly enjoy speaking about the Quran, spirituality, and activism.

I live in Oakville, ON with Hebba and our two boys Mustafa and Mahmood, teach Electrical Engineering at McMaster University, and I am a director of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC). I enjoy reading, writing, logic games, and intelligent discussion. I have a growing compilation of jokes about Egypt, marriage, and that moron in the White House. Life changing books: Ihya by Imam Ghazzaly and Said Hawwa's commentary on the Hikam by Ibn Ataa.
